Project Overview:
CalTekNet is seeking 4+ skilled IT volunteers to join our technical team in deploying, testing, and maintaining a suite of open-source applications using Docker Swarm orchestration via Portainer.io. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to meaningful technology projects while enhancing your containerization and deployment skills.
Key Applications to Deploy:
- Odoo Community Edition (Open-source ERP/CRM)
- OpenACS (Community System Platform)
- Elgg (Social Networking Engine)
- Omeka (Digital Collection Management)
Technical Environment:
- Docker Multi-Node Swarm architecture
- Portainer.io for container management
- Ubuntu 24.04.2/Debian VPS hosts
- GitHub integration (https://github.com/calteknet)
Key
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and plan containerized deployment strategies for our application suite
- Create and optimize Docker Compose configurations for multi-node environments
- Develop Portainer stack templates for easy application deployment
- Implement testing protocols to ensure stack stability and performance
- Document deployment processes and best practices
- Train team members on container management workflows
- Collaborate with our lead ICT integrator on optimization strategies
- Potentially prepare for future Kubernetes migration
Required Skills:
- Experience with Docker and container technologies
- Familiarity with Docker Compose and Docker Swarm
- Knowledge of Portainer.io or similar container management platforms
- Basic understanding of Linux server environments
- Ability to work collaboratively in a remote team
Desired Skills:
- Experience with one or more of our target applications (Odoo, OpenACS, Elgg, Omeka)
- Knowledge of CI/CD principles and tools
- Familiarity with Kubernetes concepts
- Documentation skills
