ASIFA-Hollywood's Animation Educators Forum Annual General Membership Meeting is Coming on May 5th. Save the Date!

ASIFA-Hollywood’s Animation Educators Forum will hold its General Membership Meeting on May 5, 2018 at The Animation Guild in Burbank from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The meeting will feature a full afternoon of discussions and screenings, along with an opportunity to catch up with colleagues.

This year’s theme is "Where the Jobs Are: Mapping the Expanding Universe of Animation Employment” Our special focus this year is the ever-expanding universe of animation employment from opportunities in big Hollywood studios to newly hatched positions in online streaming services, virtual reality and other emerging technologies.

The highlight of the afternoon will be a panel discussion featuring acclaimed writer-director Jorge R. Gutiérrez, Animation Guild Director of Communications and Culture Brooke Keesling, animator-designer-director Tony Bancroft and story artist Ennio Torreson.

We will also be reviewing the Forum’s activity in 2017, with exciting presentations from some of our past Student Scholarship winners. For information, please visit http://animationeducatorsforum.org/

More Special ASIFA Screenings Scheduled!

It is almost May and Shout! Factory will soon be inviting ASIFA members to a screening of BIG FISH AND BEGONIA. Then, In early June, Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures will host a special ASIFA screening of INCREDIBLES 2. Now, we have heard from Sony Pictures that we will soon have a July screening date and time for HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3.

2018 Student Scholarship Call for Submissions Deadline Extended Through May 21

ASIFA-Hollywood’s Animation Educators Forum Student Scholarship has extended the application deadline to May 21.

This is an international opportunity designed to support students enrolled in college animation programs anywhere in the world. Proposals will be accepted from undergraduate students entering the sophomore year or above and for graduate students.

Awards range from $2500 to $5000 and may be applied to tuition, books and supplies, animation equipment (including computer hardware or software), formal academic research and senior or graduate thesis productions.

Your Brand New ASIFA-Hollywood Membership Card is Coming!

All ASIFA members in good standing by May 1 will be receiving a brand new membership card in June. Not only will new members be getting their first card, but long established members will be getting the new card as well. (Your old card will still work too.)

As always, members will still be able to get a temporary, printable card on line that can also be transferred to your mobile phone.

Watch for further information and be on the lookout for the special mailing of your new ASIFA card.

Featuring films by independent animators, studios and college students. Entries should be under 10 minutes. You do not need to be an ASIFA-SF member to enter. Our audience will vote for their favorite works and the winners will be announced in the ASIFA-SF website and newsletter. 

Send us a DVD or thumb drive or a link to your work if it is online by May 24 for our judges to approve your entry. (Send DVDs to Tim Harrington, Box 52, City College of San Francisco, 50 Phelan Avenue, San Francisco CA 94112.)
