THE POETS: A CELEBRATION OF THE ONYX CAFE
A celebration of the legendary Onyx Cafe in Silverlake, home to painters, poets and performing artists. Steve Abee reads, Hassan Jamal screens his film The Poets and S.A. Griffin hosts. Hassan is a playwright, poet, theater director, filmmaker and is currently founder and producing director of the web series, LA Subway Shakespeare Project. The Poets was screened at the 1995 AFI Film Festival Video Division. Regular Admission. Members FREE
Event Description
The Juneteenth Heritage Festival is an annual African American celebration that dates back to June 19th, 1865 when the enslaved people in Texas and other southern states learned that they were “free.” Bring family and friends to enjoy the 2-day FREE outdoor festival showcasing outstanding work from fine artists, fashion & jewelry designers and food artists as well as enjoy great music. Be sure to visit our History/Inventors area, Health Village, and Technology Tent. Fun for the whole family!
